By Hand: The Use of Craft in Contemporary Art (Hardcover)
I've been eyeballing this book for quite some time and finally added to my collection.
I have a BFA in Crafts and am always on the lookout for books which address craft as a fine art form versus craft as a DIY/hobby. By Hand definitely covers it.

Out of the Ordinary: Spectacular Craft (Paperback)
The book features unusual works including the ephemeral ice-and-chocolate jewelry of Naomi Filmer; the almost-hidden installations by Yoshihiro Suda; thread and lace-work by Anne Wilson; and found metal sculptures by Olu Amoda. These innovative artists show that craft is a fundamental concern across many disciplines, and this redirection of materials, traditional techniques, and use of scale achieves extraordinary outcomes.

Magickal Crafts (Kindle Edition)
While I would have preferred to see photos of everything, there were more than enough on the cover and inside, plus plenty of good illustrations to help me make even the most challenging of the crafts I've tried so far. And there are soooo many neat ideas in this book. Some really are simple enough for my kids but there are several that I never would have thought to try myself and I'm pretty crafty.
I made the coolest "Pointy Hat" using the embossed velvet technique. My friends all want me to make them pointy hats now! And I never would have tried stone carving or drum making without this book.
I also love all the background on the crafts and the meditations, exercises, spells, and even songs. It's become one of my favorite craft books already!

Thinking Through Craft (Paperback)
Workmanship is key to today’s visual arts, when high ‘production values’ are becoming increasingly commonplace. Yet craft’s centrality to contemporary art has received little serious attention from critics and historians. Dispensing with clichéd arguments that craft is art, Adamson persuasively makes a case for defining craft in a more nuanced fashion. The interesting thing about craft, he argues, is that it is perceived to be 'inferior' to art. The book consists of an overview of various aspects of this second-class identity - supplementarity, sensuality, skill, the pastoral, and the amateur

Objects and Meaning: New Perspectives on Art and Craft (Paperback)
I just read this book to gain a new perspective on the meaning of craft objects in an age where contemporary craft is about more than beauty or being well-made. The essays are thoughtful, approach the subject from many different viewpoints and are mostly easy to comprehend without having to know much about the artists or philosophers mentioned. I intend to use this book to train my museum volunteers and to encourage them to think of the meaning of objects beyond their obvious purpose. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a wider philosophical perspective on art.

Craft Tool : Euro-Pro 534 DX Serger with 6 Creative Feet and Soft Portable Case
I've had mine for over two years now and haven't had a single problem with it. I use it weekly at least. It replaced a Singer serger that worked briefly but wasn't good for anything except for taking back to the store several times in hopes of getting one that might work. My only complaint about it is that I wanted a five thread model like my last serger and the Euro Pro is only a four thread model. Otherwise it has been a flawless performer under heavy use. The differential feed has been great to have as well and it does a decent rolled hem too. (I make medieval costumes and also quilts.) Don't buy a machine without a differential feed! It also came with a bonus set of six extra feet, such as a beading foot, an elastic foot, and a blind hem foot too. It's gotten so that I use my serger more now for what used to be regular sewing than ever before.. hems go SO fast on it. I've never had a problem getting needles or blades for it, even with heavy use I haven't had to change the blades more than 3-4 times, if that.

This is a beautifully bound book full of color pictures of beautifully decorated cookies. It's giving me tons of great ideas for the holidays. There are also a lot of helpful hints--(e.g., how to keep your cookie cutters from rusting, how to roll out the dough to a consistant thickness) as well as detailed instructions for really cool party favors, centerpieces -- all made from cookies. The instructions break it down really simply, so it looks doable too. This is going to be the holiday book of choice for this year!Get here

The Confetti Cakes Cookbook: Spectacular Cookies, Cakes, and Cupcakes from New York City's Famed Bakery (Hardcover)
Finally, the book we've all been waiting for is out. I've seen Elisa interviewed and do demonstrations and seen her work, and now some secrets are out and helpful hints and stunning pictures are all in this great book.
For some people, I imagine you'd want to dive right in and begin/attempt to recreate some of the fabulous cakes in here (I personally don't think I even have half the skill to try), but whether you want to try and make them or just admire her fantastic work, this book is spectacular.
For each recipe, there is a complete list of what you need (materials, equipment, and techniques etc). To me, I like simple, and this isn't. It can be mind boggling if you aren't practiced in baking, but I can't stress enough how beautiful this book is, and it would make the perfect gift on Mothers day or for a birthday for anyone who loves baking, or just amazing and stunning looking cakes. I love this.
